DownloadA cross-connection is a physical connection (a piping configuration) between the public drinking water system and anything else, including another water supply, that can allow pollutants or contaminates to backflow into the public water system.
Backflow occurs when a reverse flow of contaminated water or other substances from a customer's water system flows back into the public drinking water system.
A backflow incident can seriously affect the quality and safety of our drinking water supply. Some examples of possible cross connections include landscape sprinkler systems, and hose attachments for utility sinks, and hoses run to pools or watering troughs.
Backflow prevention assemblies provide the public water system with protection against contamination or pollution by preventing backflow through cross-connections.
For more information on backflow prevention assemblies, call our office at (503) 842-4333.

If you suspect that you have a water leak, you can start your hunt for it at the water meter.
Make sure that there is no water being used at your address and then take a look at your water meter. Most meters will have a small triangle shaped indicator. If this indicator is turning, and you have confirmed that no water is being used, then you most likely have a water leak.
If your meter doesn't have an indicator, then you can watch the needle on the meter to see if its moving or make a note of its position and the current reading and then check it again in 5 minutes. If the needle has moved, or if the reading has increased, then you most likely have a leak.
If you have an electronic meter, then your leak indicator will be flashing. This flashing indicator detects if there has been constant water use or where water flow has exceeded a preprogrammed volume for a minimum of 30 minutes.
HOW TO FIND A LEAK
Believe it or not, the most common cause of a water leak is a leaking toilet. You can easily check for a leaking toilet by adding a drop or two of food coloring in the toilet tank and waiting for a bit. If colored water appears in the bowl, then your toilet is leaking.
If it isn't the toilet, check behind the washing machine, underneath all the sinks, and around the hot water heater. If those locations come up dry, check the piping under the house and look for any wet spots on the ground.
If your leak isn't in the household plumbing, look for a lush green spot in your grass or a wet spot in the yard between the meter and the house or building that water is piped into.
FOUND AND REPAIRED YOUR LEAK? ASK FOR A REDUCTION ON YOUR LAST WATER BILL
Scroll down and download, or stop by the office at 403 Marolf Loop Road and get a water bill reduction request form. Fill it out and submit to the office to present to the Fairview Board of Commissioners at the next board meeting for review. If approved, we will deduct 50% of your last month's usage rate from your account.
